New Server – the 48+hour report

I am pleased to report that for the most part the new server is working well. We are having a few issues, but they are mostly of the PEBTAC* and “my network is being dodgy” variety. The latter problem is nothing new as they are the identical problems I’ve been having on the iphone since 0.12 was released.

The other errors are not the fault of the tablet, they are more the fault of this is Fisher Price My First Android Device and there are some things I’m still getting used to. So far the major impact here was finding out the hard way that my backup procedure needs to change, as I thought I’d backed up the game before we went to Survival mode last night, and then went to restore it and got “ARBTServer cannot be opened.” Panic. I ended up transferring the files I’d pulled off my iphone early Saturday, so two days of server time went poof, but two days is way better than a year and a half worth of work, right? :/ I did figure out what I was doing wrong this morning so that won’t happen again.

Other news and announcements etc:

  • Since we are now up more than 3-6 hours a week, I’m going to be a little stricter about enforcing the build moratorium, and will in fact be extending it. Please do not build or modify anything within 200 blocks of spawn without permission. Its a huge map, y’all. please range further out.
  • I will be posting server downtime, maintenance, etc on the subreddit, so if you’re having connection issues, please check over there for a status report.
  • server will likely be down tonight as I will be rooting the tablet and starting to play with command mods and Mine view. Perhaps at long last, we will have a server map? Stay tuned.

Big Server News!

Been a little quiet on the website lately! For that I apologize – my non-Minecraft life has been eating me alive, and many of the ARBiTors are back in school, so really everyone’s been busy. But I wanted to delurk long enough to say HEY I HAVE SOME BIG NEWS OH WAIT THE FEATURED IMAGE FOR THIS POST AND THE SIDEBAR ALREADY SPOILED IT WELLP. To make a short story long, October 7th was my birthday, and I got myself and by extension the rest of the gang a little present: An Acer Iconia One 7, the sole planned use … continue

We’ve had a blip!

Sorry about the couple days of blog downtime, y’all. Your fearless leader had a brain-fart and a few strategically important emails land in the spambox and long story short my domain expired. All better now!

On the Server transfer front, my desktop is proving harder to resurrect than initially expected. No sooner did I get the drive failure addressed when the CMOS decided to die. She’s an ancient machine by any standard, so none of this is exactly surprising, but it is no less frustrating for it. I’ll keep trying to get her up and running, but worst comes to worst, My husband and I are working on drafting a part list for a brand new box so we can finally let this one be honorably discharged after years of faithful service.

As an alternative, I’ve been looking into the wide world of minecraft hosts. It seems like most of them are crap. HOWEVER. I recently remembered that my webhost, whom I’ve had for years (and are awesome people) does offer Minecraft server hosting. No real word on whether they offer Pocketmine/MCPE, but I do have a little experience running one on my own, so I could self-install at the very least if Pocketmine is the way I decide to go. I’m still waffling on it, honestly – I like working mobs! But I’d also like to host more than 5 people at a time! But PHP is a platform I can actually work in! But laaaaaaaaaaaaaag. It’s a dilemma to be sure. To make things worse, I’ve checked out MiNet and while the terrain generation is hilarious (post about that later) it does seem poised to be a capable contender in the MCPE hosting department.

Of course with 0.12.0 on the horizon and Win 10 out, all of this could be rendered moot. We’ll see.

Anyway! Sorry again for the downtime. See y’all Monday!

The Back-From-Hiatus Runs

OMG y’all I am SO behind on posting LOL. So a quick recap on what is New, Improved and Different on the ARBTserver: We had a new face from WSE visit on Monday: welcome Kyster! There is now a road extension from the Pyramid, through the huge desert biome and ending at the village Hachi discovered a few runs back. The ARBTServer monument has been extended, with two more spaces added for statues. May shove it out two more spaces just so ARBT lines up in the middle evenly again, haven’t decided. I’ve finished reskinning the hot air balloon. It … continue

Server and blog news!

[insert obligatory complaint about backlog of picture posts I still want to make and am woefully behind on] We’ll cycle back to that. 🙂 I ran twice this week on both Monday and Tuesday nights. There have been some in-world developments. Mt. Servermore is now done (now with four faces and seekrit bat cave!), as is the Granite line of the subway – well. “Done.” It runs to Wacker Tower and stops there pending expansion. Also during Monday’s game DoublePositive (the artist formerly known as Mathguy04) first showed me and 576875 how to build mostly waterless boat launchers (two exist … continue
